We live in a day and age where Christians are under attack. In some nations, like Pakistan, that attack is tangible and believers’ lives are on the line. In America, the attack is more spiritual than anything. The enemy has come to sift us like wheat, and we are seeing a great falling away as a result. More than ever before, we need to protect ourselves with the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, the Bible, and we need to raise up our shield of faith.

A shield is a device of protection against the weapons of outside forces. The shield of faith protects us from the arrows of the enemy that are designed to kill us, to destroy us. We know that “no weapon formed against us shall prosper,” but do you know why? Because God is our Shield. Take a look at these verses with me:

  • Genesis 15:1 – “I am thy thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”
  • Proverbs 30:5 – “Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.”
  • Psalm 3:3 – “But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.”Psalm 28:7 – “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him.”
  • Psalm 115:9-11 – “O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord: He is their help and their shield. Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: He is their help and their shield.”
  • Psalm 84:11 – “For the LORD God is a sun and shield.”

God is our Protector from weapons that have been formed and are coming against us. God is our Defender. He is our Shield.

And when we realize that “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds,” we will begin reach out for what we need. That may be Bible verses or prayer one day and words of encouragement or hard truth another. Whatever we need, through God the strongholds will be pulled down. It might take some fasting. It might take walking and talking in a new level of holiness. It might take fervent prayer. Through whatever it takes, I want you to know you’re using offensive weapons. God the Father is standing in front of you as your Shield, your Defense, so that when the fiery darts come, He’s positioned to take on the attack!

The weapons that are meant to destroy you CANNOT!

The fiery darts that come to stop you, sting you, hinder you CANNOT!

God is your Shield of Faith. His faith must become your faith. Why? “The just shall live by faith.” We don’t just walk by faith; we live it!

God is your Protector. He hides you in times of trouble. He protects you from harm, evil, danger, and death.

Isaiah 52:12 says our God is a Man of War. He teaches our hands to war. He will reward you in either the advance or the retreat — just as long as you are following His command. So when you’re advancing and you can’t see behind you, just recognize that He is with you as a Shield round about. He’s in front, and He’s your Rear Guard all at the same time. He’s put all you need in your hands to win this battle. No need to be afraid! No need to run and hide! It’s time you allow the Shield to do what it does best!

Maybe today you’ve dropped your shield. You’ve laid it down  — maybe even forgot about it! But God is saying, “Pick up the shield. It’s time to fight with the weapons that God has given you.” The Word says that our fight is a good fight. A good fight is one that you win! Receive it in Christ today. Declare with me out loud, “I have the victory! The battle is already won, and I am safe and surrounded by my Shield of Faith!
